WORDS BY SAM GRADY
I recently had the wonderful opportunity to spend some time with artist Jon Harvey, document him at work in his studio and to also take a series of portraits. It’s always a pleasure to meet people for the first time, get to know them a little and learn about their work, and this was a dream commission for me.
MY SUBJECT: AT WORK WITH ARTIST JON HARVEY
British artist Jon Harvey is a graduate of Bournemouth College of Art & Design. He worked as a Creative Director in the advertising industry for over 20 years before going on to establish his own design practice. Today he continues a lifelong devotion to image making through his original paintings.
From Bauhaus to Modernism and Pop Art, Jon’s influences are rooted in art movements of the 20th century - his formative years being shaped by the bold visual language and graphic aesthetic of magazines like The Face and artists such as Haring and Hockney.
His work embraces the principles of abstraction and non-objective art, creating emotive, dynamic compositions - thought forms often inspired by the beauty and imperfection of our interior landscape.
