LOCKDOWN THROUGH THE EYES OF A TWENTY-SOMETHING…
By Bryony Coles, Features Writer & Photographer
During this period of lockdown, getting fit within the four walls of our homes has become an active trend. When you aren’t going out in public or visiting the gym, it can become easy to just slip into a baggy t-shirt and sweats to do your workout. Why do that when there are some great brands out there who have made the perfect activewear options to wear whilst staying home and will keep you looking good and feeling good at the same time. Take a look at my top 5 brands of ‘my 2020 lockdown’ and a selection of some gorgeous product to wear and get me moving…
Nike has always been a firm favourite of mine! Not only do they have a wide range of products and styles to suit everyone, but they have released both a Home Workouts range and a Cosy At Home range during lockdown. Whether you’re into a matching sports bra and legging set or a pair of yoga pants with a funky t-shirt – Nike has such a large assortment to choose from. They are currently having a 30% off everything sale, plus an additional 10% discount if you are a student.
If you are eco-conscious and concerned about purchasing from high end brands, Nike has a whole range of products that are made from sustainably sourced materials as well as their Move to Zero campaign which is their journey toward zero carbon and zero waste to help protect the future of sport.

Gymshark’s workout gear is so stylish and comfy that you will WANT to be working out while at home just so you can wear it. They have, similarly to Nike, come out with a great Home Workout and a Home Comfort athleisure range for a reasonable price. Their latest drop is the Flex collection which aims to provide breathable material to keep your body temperature in check whilst working out, as well as flattering your figure. The Flex leggings are especially efficient as they have elasticated, high-waist bands and non-slip fits to support you during your workout. Along with sportswear, they also have a good selection of workout gear such as resistance bands and tubes to help add a bit more to your exercise routine. Gymshark also has a 10% discount for students, 15% discount for those working in the Emergency Services and a 10% Apprentice discount if you are signed up with YouthDiscount.
Sweaty Betty is definitely one of those brands that you get what you pay for. They have also invested greatly in getting to know their customer and audience. Not only do they provide high quality athleisure, but they also have been providing daily virtual challenges, home workout videos, podcasts and wellbeing advice during this pandemic.
Sweaty Betty’s specialty are leggings and they even provide a leggings quiz so that you can find the perfect pair, whether it’s for yoga, running or even if “fashion is your workout.” Sweaty Betty’s workout at home selection comes with some gorgeous pieces to make you feel good when working out, plus they currently are doing 20% off their range so get on there ASAP! Sweaty Betty is great for that community feeling it provides with lifetime support once you become a customer, along with actively participating in a sustainable ethos for 2020.
Adidas have adapted to our world’s current situation incredibly well. Similar to Sweaty Betty, they have launched a wide range of workout videos, challenges and support for their customers – as well as providing some great home workout gear. They are currently donating £2 for every £20 purchased to #COVID19FUND and you can join their #HOMETEAM challenge to help support their good cause further. They launched their StayCation collection for those spending time at home through lockdown and the holidays.
LuluLemon is one of my favourite brands specifically for yoga products. As a part of the recent tie-dye craze during lockdown, they have released a whole collection that is all tie-dye themed as well as an At Home Practice collection filled with accessories, clothing and workout equipment.
LuluLemon also provides online mindfulness and wellbeing videos and tips through their website along with training videos and running tips and tricks. They care a lot about their social impact and having a sustainable ethos as well as providing high quality, fashionable products. LuluLemon also offers a We Made Too Much section on their website for when they have too much inventory and provide it at a discount to customers.
