Investment pieces

An investment piece generally has lived many lives before we lay eyes on it and set our minds to purchasing one.

ABOUT LE TRICOTEUR & ITS GUERNSEY KNIT

The idea for Le Tricoteur came to Robert on a trip to USA in 1963, organised by the student's union of Trinity College Dublin, where he was an undergraduate. His hand-knitted guernsey was much admired by his American hosts.

A year later he purchased a 40-year-old hand knitting machine equipped with a power drive and installed it in an old cobbler's shop at 5 Lower Vauvert, St Peter Port. There was one employee and six hand knitters all working from home.

A centuries old heritage garment, the original guernsey from Le Tricoteur is crafted from 100% British worsted wool, resulting in a durable and weather resistant item, often handed down through generations. Loved by many as workwear and everyday wear alike, each guernsey is hand-finished on-Island by knitters in their homes, in the same way they have been made for 60 years.

Meticulously upholding tradition and ensuring sustainability are at the heart of Le Tricoteur’s being. From its west coast factory on the island of Guernsey, garment pieces are knitted on vintage punch-card machines, before passing to a team of knitters to hand knit the feature shoulder seams and necks. The guernseys are returned to be linked in the factory with every item labelled with the names of each person involved in the making of the individual garment.
